Review of ASAR's Current Information Technology (IT) Set Up and Assessment of Future IT Requirements

ASAR is conducting a review of our current IT set up and an assessment of our future IT requirements.

2014 ASAR Ltd. Board Elections

In May 2014, three Member Director-positions will become vacant. In accordance with Part V.35 of the
ASAR Ltd. Constitution, elections will be held to determine a voting member to fill each of the vacant positions. A timeline for the 2014 ASAR Board nominations and elections is provided below.

  • Online Nominations for Directors commence 14 February 2014
  • Online nominations for Directors end 28 March 2014
  • Formal announcement of AGM 11 April 2014
  • Ballot for Directors commences 11 April 2014
  • Ballot for Directors closes 2 May 2014
  • Candidates informed of election results 6 May 2014
  • New Directors announced at the AGM on 25 May 2014

All approved voting members of ASAR Ltd. are entitled to nominate and be nominated for appointment as a Member Director of the ASAR Board. To date there are over 1000 approved voting members.

Accredited Medical Sonographers (AMSs) can apply for voting membership of ASAR online at any time by logging into their member profile on the ASAR website or by downloading, completing and submitting the application form.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) 

FAQs for Sonographers also practicing Radiography
ASAR has received a number of queries from Sonographers who also practice Radiography regarding CPD requirements. In response, ASAR has put together a FAQ sheet, which is available for download or viewing here on the ASAR website.

New Category added to ASAR CPD Program
A new category has been added to the ASAR CPD program for management and leadership courses. Participants can claim one CPD point per hour to a maximum of 20 credits per triennium, with a cap of ten credits per activity. Participants must retain evidence of completion, which includes the number of hours undertaken to complete the course. 

Sonographer Statistics 

Statistics on the number of qualified and student sonographers on the register by specialty and gender from 2008-2012 are available on the ASAR website. Figures will be added at the conclusion of each year to provide an idea of trends over time. 

Course Assessors Needed 

ASAR is committed to promoting high standards of medical sonography in Australia which includes setting uniform, minimum standards of Sonographer education by assessing and accrediting courses in all disciplines of sonography.

Expressions of interest are sought for Course Assessors to participate on Course Assessment Committee(s) to review evidence submitted by Course Providers seeking course accreditation against the ASAR Standards for the Accreditation of Sonography Courses (SASC). All out of pocket expenses for Committee members will be covered per the ASAR Travel & Expenses Policy

Policy Update Reminder - Maximum Time Limit on the Register as an Accredited Student Sonographer 

In late August this year, information was sent via e-mail and added to the ASAR website about updates to the Maximum Time Limit on the Register as an Accredited Student Sonographer policy.
